Early September Surf

One week into September warm weather continues its firm hold on much of the Midwest. On Friday afternoon temperatures throughout the area rose into the upper eighties, and that lingering heat was accompanied by high humidity.

However, the official beginning of autumn remains only two weeks away, and experience reminds anyone in northern Indiana that conditions can alter quickly in this region. Before long, leaves will change color and fall, as the thinning foliage will reveal the networks of their limbs. Powerful Canadian cold fronts, and eventually wintry storms, will wash ashore with wind-driven waves, as hours of sunlight diminish and the darkness extends.

Therefore, images of the surf rolling onto a bright Lake Michigan beach under strong sunshine and a shore line guarded by still-green trees, as in the photograph included here, are appreciated even more these days.
