Abandoned Boats at Beverly Shores

Abandoned Boats at Beverly Shores

I taught my first class of the fall semester on Tuesday afternoon. Coincidentally, it was also the hottest day of the year. All summer I visited beaches along Lake Michigan and trails through the Indiana Dunes each Tuesday afternoon to capture images with my camera, and I couldn’t help longing to be hiking along the waterfront once more—enjoying the wonderful scenery, fresh air, and cool onshore breezes.

Nevertheless, although I was unable to make my way to the dunes on Tuesday, I did browse through some recent photographs taken while walking along the coastline, including the accompanying photo shot at Beverly Shores. As I reviewed this picture, the abandoned boats and lack of activity at the beach seemed to signify, even emphasize, an overall absence of visitors as the close of summer approached.  Regrettably, now I find myself among those for whom the lazy days of summer have come to an end.
