Cabin in the Woods

As I wrote in the past when I hiked a historic trail past this cabin in the woods, I frequently photograph that location in all seasons. Evidence of this can be seen in a wintry photo entry posted last February.

Therefore, when I was walking by the structure during an outing earlier this week along the Little Calumet River, which flows on a course nearby the cabin, I again took a picture. This time I was reminded of Henry David Thoreau’s writings and his famous cabin in the woods built upon property owned by his friend Ralph Waldo Emerson at a spot near Concord.

I also recalled a television episode, titled “Cabin in the Woods,” about Thoreau’s solitary living alongside Walden Pond. The program, hosted by Bob Vila, includes a view of the original site for Thoreau’s cabin and a glimpse at the reproduction that now stands as a reminder of Thoreau’s project.
